mistake dispute
The Convenience store manager was fired from the job because his company claimed he purchased a winning lottery ticket on the job - which was against company rules.
Aaron D. McVicker from Dubuque, a manager at a Casey's General Store in eastern Iowa, won a $100,000 Powerball prize.
While McVicker told the company he bought the winning ticket while he was off the clock. Iowa Capital Dispatch reported, the store later claimed that he lied to avoid losing out on the jackpot.
Melissa Klenzman claimed that in early November 2022, she told McVicker and seven colleagues, I won a $100,000 prize.
McVicker allegedly said I did not use the cash register or the lotto machine during the sale.
Klenzman later found that McVicker did not come to work on November 7, when he bought a ticket. Iowa Capital Dispatch reported he was in fact working at the time when he said the ticket was bought.
Throughout discussions with Klenzman, McVicker changed his account of events, saying that the ticket was bought a day later.
According to the Iowa Capital Dispatch, McVicker also reported that the winning ticket was a mistake ticket.
A mistake ticket is a lotto ticket that is printed for a customer but then thrown aside due to a problem during the transaction.
The winning ticket was actually printed on the evening of November 7 and was treated as a mistake ticket.
