Indiana and Kentucky amongst the luckiest

states to win the lottery

A new study used the phrase "Gettin' Lucky in Kentucky". There might have some truth behind it.

The website "Bet Kentucky" looked at the Powerball Media Center to find out the luckiest states.

Powerball media center helped the website "Bet Kentucky" to find out the states who hit the lottery, and amount of winners in each state.

Indiana was one of the first states to join the lottery in 1990. The Indiana Hoosier state ranks No.1, with 39 winners.

Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania round out the top five of the list.

Kentucky was just one win behind making that top five. The bluegrass state ranked sixth, with 18 winners.

The most recent winner from Kentucky was Muncie Media, who took home $6.6 million in 2010 after dividing the prize with a winner in Illinois.

Rob Anderson became the biggest Powerball winner in Kentucky history in 2009, he bought a ticket on Christmas Eve and won $126 million.

Another notable Kentucky winner includes Inville Lee Huff, who won $33.6 million in 2007 and wanted to keep his jackpot a secret. But his name was ultimately revealed by local papers.
